It’s not a secret that we all love our pets and we are willing to try new methods of keeping them Safe and Healthy. Having rambunctious pets that like to roam around a lot can drive pet owners crazy. If you have a dog who likes to catch squirrels across the street or a cat that likes to go out every night, the smart pet GPS tracker will prove helpful in keeping your worries away as you monitor your pet’s whereabouts.

What Exactly is GPS Pet Tracker?

GPS Trackers are cutting edge technology that allows you to pinpoint your pets location in real time.  You can see a history of locations reported by the device to see every place your pet went while you were away. The GPS Trackers even give an alert when you pet leaves a pre-determined area (geo-fence).  In order to transmit the GPS location from almost anywhere and anytime use of cellular data and towers are required.

How does pet GPS tracker work?

1.The pet parent attaches a GPS tracker (transmitter) to their pet.

2.The GPS tracker has a GPS chip inside, which acquires the signal broadcasted by GPS satellites that orbit around Earth to determine the pet’s location. ?

3.Then, using cell coverage, the GPS tracker sends the GPS coordinates to the pet parent’s smartphone. Usually an app is used to display the pet’s location on a map. In many cases, Wi-Fi is also used to determine the pet’s position –  Wi-Fi towers nearby are used as an alternative positional reference, increasing the positional accuracy.

Please bear in mind that there are two technologies being used here, each with a different purpose: GPS (to acquire the pet’s location) and cell coverage (so you can receive the coordinates and visualize the pet’s location on your smartphone). Without cell coverage, the GPS module would still be able to acquire the GPS coordinates, but wouldn’t have a way to send them to the pet parent’s smartphone.

How will GPS tracker keep my dog and cat safe?

Peace of mind – knowing where to look helps to reduce the panic and stress of losing a pet dramatically, enabling a more effective response/search. Cats in particular tend to have set routines and territories. Familiarizing yourself with this information gives a great starting point for a search and generally means less worry.

Reducing exposure– knowing where to look for your pet also aids faster recovery and reduces their exposure to harm. Having an effective immediate search area saves wasted time looking in areas your pet just simply doesn’t go.

Environmental change– mapping a pet’s routine on a regular basis helps owners to identify environmental factors that may cause stress to your pet or be a catalyst to them going missing (ie. new pet in the neighborhood or unfriendly new neighbor). In the most distressing cases, I’ve heard of owners’ pets being tormented and even poisoned by neighbors. Identifying this in their daily routine can be lifesaving.
